Everyone seems to have settled down a bit over the last couple of days. I think they're all suffering from post-Christmas depression.
John seems to be in rehearsal mode at the moment - he's probably looking ahead to and looking forward to the Stockport Plaza gig on 26th February but we can't get together in a real rehearsal room until early February because of other commitments (John getting his tax return sorted out and trying to persuade his bank to let him buy a guitar that costs nearly as much as a small house). He keeps sending me lists of what he wants to play at the gig and he keeps telephoning me and serenading me (I think he's singing his unique interpretations of the songs he wants to play) - anyway, it'll be alright on the night.
Soon be Summer won't it!

John and I went to different schools together. We went back to school yesterday to give the benefit of our vast knowledge to some year six pupils at a private school in Shaw, near Oldham. The children called us "Mr Rafferty" and "Mr Denny" and made us feel like real teachers. John knows nearly everything about sixties music and nearly nothing about anything else and the children had been doing a project about some historical figures called "The Beatles". We were invited by the school staff - we didn't just gatecrash the end-of-term party. I played the school piano and the kids sang "Imagine" and John had a lump in his throat after that (soft sod). John sang a couple of songs and did a question and answer session with the children. One of the teachers said that we should go round the different schools doing music related topics and said she would find out about the formalities so that we could see if it was a worthwhile thing to do. All in all, and thanks to the teachers and, especially, the kids, it was one of the best gigs of the year.

We went to Liverpool yesterday to pay homage and have a pint - Photos soon. We called in The Grapes and the (new) Cavern on Matthew Street and tried to keep warm. Then we passed Penny Lane on the way to Strawberry Field and John Lennon's Aunt Mimi's house. We had been talking to the bloke at The Cavern about the music that they showcase nowadays and on the way home it occurred to us that they don't do much of what The Cavern made its name on - sixties beat music. It also occurred to us that it might be a good night out to play at The Cavern and take a coachload (or two) of our lot for a really great, authentic Sixties Night Out. Let us know what you think and we'll sort it out if you want.
